About the Role
Serena & Lily is recruiting a Director of Sourcing for their Sausalito, California location. Reporting to the Vice President of Sourcing, this position leads and mentors a team while overseeing sourcing, production, and product development strategies. The role entails managing a broad supplier base both domestic and international across furniture and upholstery categories, coordinating closely with cross-functional departments, and driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead sourcing teams and develop comprehensive strategies aligned with company objectives across multiple categories.
- Manage supplier relationships to promote cost efficiencies, innovation, and reliable partnerships.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to shape sourcing policies.
- Onboard and manage domestic and direct import vendors, ensuring compliance with packaging, labeling, and operational standards.
- Oversee scheduling and timelines with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely delivery of products.
- Partner closely with Design, Merchandising, Planning, Distribution Center, and Quality & Compliance teams.
- Evaluate and optimize supplier portfolios to support growth and market opportunities.
- Lead product development efforts including allocation, sample approval, cost negotiation, and quality enhancement.
- Address production issues and facilitate solutions for quality and scheduling challenges.
- Drive capacity planning strategies and resolve bottlenecks in collaboration with planning teams.
- Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, sustainability, and ethical sourcing standards.
- Train and mentor a team of sourcing professionals, fostering development and operational excellence.
- Travel internationally as required to assess suppliers and improve sourcing processes.
- Establish metrics and continuous improvement programs for the sourcing function.
- Champion organizational change by implementing new processes and systems.
People Development
- Define and implement leadership and development strategies aligned with organizational aims.
- Create tailored career paths, succession plans, and employee engagement tactics to enhance retention and growth.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years experience in Hardlines sourcing or production, with a preference for furniture and upholstery sectors.
- Proven leadership ability with expertise in strategic planning and stakeholder management.
- Strong negotiator with experience managing complex supplier relationships and teams.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of manufacturing, raw materials, fabrics, finishes, packaging, and testing related to furniture/upholstery.
- Experience in logistics, supply chain coordination, financial reporting, and quantitative analysis.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English (verbal and written).
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Usual willingness to attend off-hour meetings and travel overseas.
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range: $150,000 to $180,000 per year, dependent on qualifications and experience.
