Director of Software Engineering - AI and Platform Software

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Director of Software Engineering to lead a diverse team focused on software development, core platform, and AI accelerator software systems targeted at data centers. This role involves combining profound technical expertise with effective leadership to guide a growing group of engineers working on next-generation Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for rendering and edge AI, optimizing multi-platform performance across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee engineering teams developing Snapdragon Adreno and internal developer tools software.
• Guide embedded software teams responsible for AI data-center inference products, emphasizing core platform software such as SoC firmware, peripheral interfaces, bootloaders, hypervisors, and power management systems.
• Manage software testing groups focused on core platform firmware validation and secure system testing.
• Lead audio software development teams working on Audio DSP/Codec and embedded software for comprehensive audio software pipelines.
• Mentor and manage a mid-sized team exceeding 50 engineers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, research, and platform teams in a matrixed organizational environment across multiple time zones.
• Conduct annual reviews and provide growth guidance to junior and senior engineering staff.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 15 or more years in software engineering, with at least 5 to 8 years in leadership roles.
• Experience working within matrix organizations spanning multiple global regions.
• Proficiency in system-level programming using C/C++ and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Linux Kernel and system software for cloud edge and data center contexts.
• Familiarity with Zephyr or other RTOS technologies suitable for cloud edge and data center environments.
• Contributions or experience with open-source projects, particularly the Linux Kernel.
• Educational qualifications meeting one of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related fields plus 8+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Master’s degree in relevant fields plus 7+ years of experience.
  • PhD in relevant fields plus at least 6 years of experience.
• Programming experience with languages such as C, C++, Java, and Python spanning at least 4 years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with contemporary AI large language models (LLM) and their architectures.
• Expertise in embedded software development workflows related to semiconductor development, including BareMetal, RTOS, Linux Kernel, and peripheral interfacing.
• Knowledge of ARM and RISCV boot flows and instruction set architectures.
• Experience with audio codec/DSP architectures and comprehensive audio processing pipelines.
