About the Role
Superior Rigging & Erecting Co., a leader since 1952 in complex crane operations, rigging, steel erection, heavy transport, and specialty construction across the U.S., is searching for a seasoned Director of Safety & Risk Management to join its Atlanta, GA headquarters. This key leadership position reports directly to the Chief Risk Officer and is responsible for championing safety and risk initiatives throughout the organization. The successful candidate will drive safety strategies, foster a culture of accountability, and mentor safety teams to enhance overall safety performance and support the company’s growth.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead development and implementation of enterprise-wide safety strategies and construction safety management systems.
- Drive operational risk management and safety culture enhancement with leadership accountability.
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and lead corrective action plans.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and relevant regulations while managing risk mitigation efforts.
- Oversee workforce safety training, development programs, and multi-site safety operations.
- Partner with Operations, HR, and Project Management to optimize safety performance across crane, rigging, steel erection, transportation, fabrication, and specialty construction.
- Develop and analyze safety metrics, trends, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor and foster growth among safety personnel throughout the company.
- Perform audits, assessments, operational reviews, and lead safety culture transformation initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or related discipline.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- At least 10 years of progressive safety leadership experience within the construction industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs across multiple projects, locations, or business units.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
- Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with a track record of working directly with executive teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project sites and operational locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 500 Construction Outreach Trainer certification.
- Professional credentials such as CSP, CHST, CIH, or equivalent.
- Experience with crane operations, rigging, steel erection, industrial construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, EPC, or heavy civil projects.
- Proven ability to lead safety teams across multiple sites and spearhead enterprise-wide safety culture changes.
- Background in supporting large general or industrial contractors and complex organizational structures.
Location and Work Conditions
This is a full-time onsite role based in Atlanta, Georgia. The candidate must reside within the greater Atlanta metropolitan area as relocation assistance is not provided. Frequent travel to various project sites, equipment yards, fabrication facilities, and operational areas will be required.
