Role Overview

The Director of Quality Improvement spearheads the development, implementation, and management of patient safety and quality initiatives within Baylor Scott & White Health's hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory settings. This leadership position oversees efforts aimed at eliminating preventable harm by ensuring care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the quality improvement functions within the assigned scope of Baylor Scott & White Health.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including patient safety, infection prevention, nursing, risk management, and medical staff to advance continuous quality and safety improvements.
  • Facilitate hospital quality improvement and patient safety committees tasked with ensuring high standards of care and safety.
  • Guide process improvement teams using best practices, quality tools, and standardization methodologies.
  • Oversee data-related activities including monitoring, collection, testing, trend analysis, and forecasting of care processes to maintain effectiveness and safety.
  • Work alongside hospital and system groups to support broader health initiatives.
  • Manage quality improvement analytics, data validation, compliance with data confidentiality standards, and reporting to facility-specific data registries.
  • Identify current and potential safety risks within facilities, oversee variance reporting, patient safety responses, and ensure adherence to applicable safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with clinical and corporate compliance teams to prepare for regulatory surveys, certifications, and maintain compliance obligations.
  • Establish and manage hospital and system-wide protocols to monitor and report on quality and patient safety metrics, engaging stakeholders as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare management, nursing, business, or a related discipline is preferred; a Master’s degree is strongly favored.
  • Certification in Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience directly supervising healthcare quality and safety initiatives preferred.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary process improvement projects.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare quality standards, patient safety management, benchmarking, and outcome measurement techniques.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods, data collection, testing protocols, and presentation of analytic findings.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical problem-solving, and process-testing capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
