Director of Purchasing

Role overview

Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa is looking for a Director of Purchasing to oversee the hotel’s procurement activities across Food & Beverage and Rooms Division operations. This position calls for someone who can balance forecasting, budgeting, vendor management, and daily purchasing priorities while maintaining strong quality standards and controlling costs. The role also works closely with the General Manager, culinary leadership, and other departments to support menu planning and overall hotel operations.

Key duties

• Lead purchasing activities for Food & Beverage and Rooms Division needs, making sure items are sourced at the best value without compromising quality.
• Request and compare vendor bids based on required specifications, then place orders for non-food supplies and coordinate delivery timing to match operational demands.
• Calculate catering menu requirements and place orders based on guaranteed attendance figures.
• Oversee regional or corporate purchasing programs and handle any related special arrangements.
• Act as the liaison with vendors for service requests raised by the Food & Beverage team.
• Collaborate with Food & Beverage leadership on new menu ideas and concept development.
• Check delivered products for grade and quality, and maintain inventory at appropriate levels to reduce waste and improve turnover.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, labor costs, and supply accounts, including preparation and processing of purchase orders for payables.
• Supervise purchasing team members, including interviewing candidates, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining as needed.
• Ensure purchasing work follows all corporate and departmental processes, including the requisition workflow.
• Handle scheduling and vacation planning for the department when required.
• Support communication with engineering regarding needs or concerns.
• Take on administrative and other departmental tasks as assigned.

Skills and knowledge

The ideal candidate should have strong procurement expertise, solid familiarity with food, beverage, and printing products, and a good working knowledge of purchasing and accounting processes. The role also requires comfortable use of math for budgets and reports, clear English communication for forms, invoices, inventories, and day-to-day discussions, and the ability to lead, train, and manage staff effectively.

Qualifications

A college diploma is required. Candidates should have a background that combines education, training, or experience in Food & Beverage, Hospitality, and/or Culinary Arts. The role calls for at least five years of relevant experience in purchasing, inventory, food & beverage, or culinary work at a hotel of similar size or volume, along with two years of supervisory experience, preferably in purchasing. The ability to obtain any required government licenses or certificates is also necessary.

Additional information

The hotel prefers candidates with First Aid training. Because hospitality demand changes with seasonality and business activity, work schedules and hours may vary to meet hotel staffing needs.
