Position Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Director of Project Management to lead and elevate project management capabilities across the organization. This leadership role entails setting standards, governance frameworks, tools, and developing project management talent to ensure consistent and successful execution of complex client projects.
The director will closely partner with service delivery, operations, and business leadership to guarantee project managers provide structured planning, clear visibility, risk mitigation, and rigorous execution discipline. Maintaining oversight across the project portfolio to spot systemic risks, capability gaps, and performance improvements will be a critical responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project management as a core function, establishing clear role expectations and accountability.
- Drive consistent but flexible project-management practices tailored to project size, complexity, delivery model, and client needs.
- Serve as the organization’s senior expert on project management methodologies and execution rigor.
- Create a culture of transparency, accountability, early risk identification, and continuous enhancement.
- Develop and refine standards, tools, frameworks, and governance processes including project planning, scope, scheduling, risk management, change control, reporting, and closeout.
- Monitor adherence to standards and provide interventions for at-risk projects to maintain quality and successful delivery.
- Maintain comprehensive visibility into project portfolio health, trends, risks, and organizational execution challenges to inform leadership decisions.
- Lead, coach, and develop project managers, establishing performance expectations and career development paths.
- Ensure proper assignment, workload balance, and capacity planning of project managers aligned with business needs.
- Collaborate with delivery leadership and cross-functional teams to align project management processes with broader organizational objectives.
- Implement and optimize project management systems and tools that support effective planning, governance, and reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to build a scalable, efficient project management function supporting company growth.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 years in project management, program management, professional services delivery, or related disciplines.
- At least 5 years managing teams of project managers or PMO professionals.
- Proven track record of leading complex technology, digital, consulting, or business projects.
- Experience in establishing or enhancing project management methodologies, governance, and tools.
- Strong ability in developing project management talent at various career levels.
- Experience managing portfolios to identify systemic risks and improve execution.
- Skillful in partnering with delivery and operational teams to enhance project delivery effectiveness.
- Preferred experience in resource/capacity planning and servicing enterprise or Fortune 500 clients.
- In-depth knowledge of project lifecycle management including scope, schedule, budget, milestones, risk, dependencies, change control, and stakeholder management.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, and organizational change skills to foster continuous improvement.
