Overview
The Director of Project Controls holds a pivotal leadership role focused on strategizing, developing, and executing project control measures across various organizational projects. This position requires an expert grasp of project management practices combined with strong analytical capabilities to manage budgets, forecasts, cost control, and risk assessments effectively. The role involves leading a specialized project controls team to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion of projects while upholding quality standards. Additionally, strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for engaging stakeholders from project teams to top-level executives, promoting accountability, and providing actionable insights for strategic decisions. The Director will also innovate tools and processes aimed at enhancing project controls and driving organizational productivity.
Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce comprehensive project control policies aligned with corporate objectives to guarantee successful project delivery.
- Guide the project controls team in setting and upholding standards for performance measurement, management reporting, and cost control.
- Work collaboratively with project managers to define baseline budgets, timelines, and resource plans for each initiative.
- Regularly monitor project execution, offering insightful recommendations to improve cost-efficiency and schedule adherence.
- Carry out detailed risk evaluations and craft corresponding mitigation strategies consistent with project goals and stakeholder interests.
- Compile and deliver frequent status reports to senior leadership, emphasizing potential risks, opportunities, and corrective measures.
- Promote adoption of emerging technologies and optimized processes to continuously strengthen project control capabilities.
- Provide mentorship and professional development for junior staff, cultivating a supportive learning environment.
- Engage with external parties such as clients and contractors to align on project expectations and outcomes.
- Oversee the verification of all project control documentation to assure data precision and reliability for informed decision-making.
Requirements
- Possession of a Master's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in project controls or related fields, including leadership roles.
- In-depth knowledge of project control frameworks, including Earned Value Management, forecasting, and cost budgeting.
- Proven background managing large-scale projects, preferably in engineering, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong expertise in financial analysis with capability to interpret complex data to guide project planning.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to develop high-performing teams and encourage continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to establish robust relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Effective organization and time management skills for prioritizing multiple tasks in dynamic environments.
- Experienced in risk management across project lifecycles, including identification, analysis, and mitigation.
- Advanced proficiency with project management software tools and Microsoft Excel.
