Role overview

Dragonfly is looking for an accomplished operations leader to take charge of its national delivery operations in Australia. In this influential role, you will help steer the growth agenda, strengthen people capability, and improve network performance across last-mile delivery services.

About Dragonfly

Dragonfly offers a different approach to e-commerce delivery in Australia. Backed by more than 30 years of experience as a Canadian market leader, the company is launching in Australia with an emphasis on modern technology, capable people, and efficient execution. The organisation operates in a fast-moving environment focused on market growth, agility, and reliable doorstep deliveries nationwide.

What the role involves

The Director of Operations will play a central role in shaping operational strategy for Dragonfly Shipping AUS. The position calls for someone who can build efficient systems, improve service quality as delivery volumes rise, and lead teams with a strong focus on process excellence, safety, and performance. This role reports to the Managing Director, Dragonfly Australia.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the nationwide operations function and define the operating priorities, standards, and performance measures needed to support growth and service commitments.
  • Improve performance across the network so that delivery operations remain efficient, scalable, economical, and aligned with service, productivity, quality, and customer targets.
  • Oversee quality management through daily and weekly KPIs and standard operating procedures, ensuring operational leaders remain accountable in sites and on-road functions.
  • Manage workforce and capacity planning across all locations, including labour forecasts, rostering, contractor capacity, agency labour, and resourcing for routine operations and growth periods.
  • Prepare operations for peak trading and major demand spikes such as Prime, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, and other high-volume events through sound planning, risk control, and contingency execution.
  • Maintain accountability for safety, compliance, company policies, and Independent Delivery Contractor requirements across all sites, including incident management, risk handling, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Protect financial performance and gross margin outcomes at each delivery station by controlling productivity, staffing, spend, and contractor compensation.
  • Develop and guide a strong operations leadership team with a culture built on accountability, safety, continuous improvement, transparent communication, and disciplined delivery.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, commercial, technology, finance, HR, and external partners to solve operational issues, support new site and customer launches, and build operational capability.
  • Partner with Human Resources on industrial relations matters, including consultation, workforce change, employee and contractor engagement, union-related issues, and consistent policy application.

Qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is required; an MBA is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in operations leadership within logistics or last-mile delivery.
  • A strong record of managing multi-site operations and supporting business expansion.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving ability, with decisions grounded in data.
  • Proven leadership capability, including team development and change management.
  • Clear and effective communication skills for working with diverse stakeholders.

Why consider this opportunity

  • Work in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
  • Receive a performance-based bonus.
  • Access a competitive remuneration package.
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements.
  • Grow professionally through opportunities in both Australia and Canada.
  • Contribute directly to the company’s sustainable growth and long-term success.
  • Receive a mobile phone allowance.
