Role Overview
The Director of Operations at Thomsen Foodservice will play a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing daily operational efficiency and maintaining high service standards trusted by customers. The position requires a proactive leader who can introduce structure, accountability, and foster continuous operational improvements within a dynamic distribution setting while collaborating with multiple operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage warehouse, transportation, and beverage systems to ensure consistent service quality.
- Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing service levels, operational efficiency, and overall performance.
- Guide and coordinate cross-functional teams in a high-paced distribution environment.
- Develop and implement strategies focused on optimizing operational efficiency and profitability.
- Mentor and lead managerial staff across warehouse, transportation, and beverage departments.
- Drive continuous improvement projects related to safety, productivity, and customer service excellence.
- Oversee all warehouse operations including inventory management, order fulfillment, and quality assurance.
- Ensure adherence to food safety standards and organizational policies.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators such as order accuracy, throughput rates, and labor efficiency.
- Supervise transportation operations including fleet management, route planning, and delivery scheduling to maximize operational efficiency.
- Maintain Department of Transportation compliance and oversee driver safety programs.
- Control transportation expenditures and handle vendor contract negotiations as necessary.
- Provide leadership to the beverage team and oversee beverage system operations.
- Prepare and manage operating budgets, focusing on cost control without sacrificing service quality.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Regularly report operational outcomes and metrics to senior leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of seven years’ experience leading foodservice distribution or managing multi-site operations teams.
- Proven expertise managing warehouse operations and inventory control systems.
- A strong history of advancing service levels, operational efficiency, and performance metrics.
- Experience overseeing cross-functional teams in fast-paced distribution settings.
- Practical knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and inventory management software.
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- Experience supervising transportation operations and managing route delivery systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
