Job description

Opportunity Overview

This role reports directly to the CEO and gives you ownership of a sizeable team within a full-service logistics business operating across several transport modes. The position covers commercial outcomes, people management, and day-to-day operational performance, with a strong focus on lifting efficiency in a complex cost environment while protecting the high service levels the business is known for. The goal is not to rescue a failing operation, but to refine and strengthen an already successful business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and support a large workforce across several operational areas.
  • Improve results across contract logistics and the air, ocean, road, and customs functions.
  • Maintain strong governance standards, including compliance and QHSE across the operation.
  • Work closely with technology and IT teams, including WMS systems, to strengthen operational capability.
  • Manage a complicated cost structure with a close eye on margin and efficiency.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the executive leadership team and the wider organisation.
  • Help shape strategic plans and position the operation for ongoing growth.

What You Need to Bring

  • Substantial senior-level experience leading contract logistics operations and commercial performance, ideally across several service lines.
  • Strong commercial judgement in fixed-cost, low-margin environments, with the ability to understand and influence revenue and cost drivers.
  • The presence and communication skills needed to command credibility across all levels of the organisation.
  • A collaborative leadership approach, with the ability to build trust quickly and coach others effectively.
  • Resilience and confidence to perform in a high-pressure environment where outcomes matter and viewpoints can be strong.

What Is on Offer

  • A competitive remuneration package and a position with long-term prospects.
  • Immediate access to the executive table.
  • The chance to lead a large, intricate operation spanning multiple service lines.
