Job description

Role overview

Sharps Medical Waste Services is looking for a senior leader to establish its first centralized supply chain function at the national level. The business serves hospitals, surgical centers, laboratories, and healthcare professionals across the United States, and operates in a regulated, stable industry with a footprint spanning more than 35 locations.

In this position, you will report directly to the COO and take ownership of building an enterprise-wide supply chain model from the ground up. The initial phase is highly execution-oriented and does not include direct reports, so the role calls for someone who can personally create processes, negotiate vendor agreements, implement controls, and set governance standards before the team expands. Over time, the function is expected to grow into a fully staffed national organization.

What you will do

  • Create and roll out a centralized national strategy for procurement, vendor management, fleet operations, and essential operating supplies.
  • Move purchasing and supplier relationships from individual site control to a unified national framework with clear sourcing rules and governance.
  • Drive national sourcing, contract negotiation, and vendor rationalization efforts to lower costs and strengthen service quality.
  • Set up preferred supplier programs and monitor savings, compliance, and performance against targets.
  • Take ownership of fleet strategy for both heavy-duty and light-duty assets, including box trucks, tractor-trailers, vans, forklifts, and related equipment.
  • Introduce preventive maintenance programs that improve uptime, safety, and how well assets are utilized.
  • Manage fleet systems such as ELD, GPS, fuel, and maintenance tools, ensuring reporting is accurate and useful.
  • Apply telematics and operational data to improve fuel efficiency, safety outcomes, and cost per mile.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and medical waste transportation rules.
  • Develop and oversee supply chain and fleet budgets, along with KPIs for cost management, supplier performance, and risk reduction.
  • Work across the organization to gain adoption of standardized national practices and help shape the future supply chain structure as results are proven.
  • Deliver tangible improvements in savings, uptime, and consistency across all locations.

What we are looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, Engineering, or a related area, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8–12+ years of increasing responsibility in supply chain, procurement, fleet, or operational leadership roles.
  • A track record of creating programs, processes, or functions from scratch.
  • Strong supplier negotiation skills with documented cost savings.
  • Working familiarity with DOT compliance, fleet regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Experience in regulated, asset-intensive sectors such as medical waste, environmental services, logistics, or industrial services is preferred.
  • Exposure to fleet management systems and telematics platforms such as Samsara or comparable tools is preferred.
  • Background in high-growth or private equity-backed environments is an added advantage.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across functions and drive change without direct reporting authority.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment as a hands-on leader with strong accountability.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • Strong value-creation potential through better control, reliability, and savings from consolidating scattered supply chain activities.
  • Direct access to executive leadership through reporting to the COO.
  • Opportunity to design, validate, and expand a national supply chain organization.
