Role overview
Tayco is hiring for an open position for a Director of Manufacturing to join its team in Etobicoke, Ontario. Tayco is an office furniture maker focused on delivering productive and inspiring workplace experiences. Reporting to the VP of Operations, this role is responsible for leading the company’s everyday manufacturing activity. The successful candidate will use current manufacturing knowledge to make sure resources are properly planned and assigned, company processes are clearly defined and followed, and operational objectives are met. This position also provides direction and support to both direct and indirect team members.
Key responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing activities so production targets, performance expectations, and quality standards are consistently achieved.
- Examine production reporting to confirm that safety, quality, financial, and delivery outcomes remain on track.
- Work with environmental, health, and safety partners to maintain a secure workplace and follow applicable federal and state rules.
- Improve workflow, equipment usage, and plant arrangement to raise throughput and support mixed-model production, while creating and refining operating methods based on lean and 5S practices.
- Support the VP of Operations with long-term operating plans, expansion projects, and the introduction of advanced technology, including capital planning for automation, CNC equipment, material-handling systems, and facility upgrades.
- Create and oversee the manufacturing budget, and monitor KPIs such as scrap, labour efficiency, and on-time production to find cost-saving opportunities.
- Back sustainable manufacturing efforts through responsible waste reduction and energy-efficient operations.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, and training office and unionized employees when needed.
- Carry out employee discipline and termination actions in line with company policy when required.
- Identify training needs and recommend development opportunities to strengthen employee skills.
- Set up the department structure and organize teams for effective and efficient operations.
- Share progress updates and production reports with senior leadership when requested.
- Oversee equipment purchasing, maintenance, and plant layout decisions.
- Handle additional related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in industrial management.
- Strong knowledge of office furniture manufacturing processes, along with a broad understanding of manufacturing, technology, and design principles.
- Excellent skills in organization and people management.
- Strong analytical ability across process, capacity, cost-benefit, waste stream, and quality tools.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing policies and operating practices.
- Ability to set long-term goals and communicate them clearly to others.
- Ability to coordinate and inspire multiple work streams to deliver goals.
- Strong ability to partner with leadership to shape and execute a dynamic company vision and culture.
- Excellent communication, delegation, problem-solving, multitasking, and team-building skills.
- Good awareness of safety and environmental legislation.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements.

Additional information
