Job description
Position Overview
The Nevada State Contractors Board is hiring a full-time Director of Investigations to lead its investigations function. This role reports to the Executive Office and oversees all compliance and criminal investigations handled by the department. The Board operates from offices in Las Vegas and Reno.
In this leadership role, you will serve as the organization’s main law enforcement contact, coordinating investigative activity with local, state, and federal agencies. The Board’s mission is to uphold the integrity and professionalism of Nevada’s construction industry and support public health, safety, and welfare through its licensing and regulatory framework. This is an at-will position.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings a mission-focused leadership style along with a law enforcement background and solid management, strategic, relationship-building, and operational experience. Applicants must be able to understand Nevada Revised Statute 624.
Minimum qualification options include a bachelor’s degree, or 10 years of related law enforcement experience and/or training, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities
The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare polished professional correspondence with excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You should also be comfortable using computer databases, spreadsheets, and word processing tools.
Knowledge is needed in criminal law terminology and concepts, construction industry standards, and the methods and practices used to document investigations. The position also calls for the ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal and legislative materials; respond to questions and complaints from customers, regulators, and business stakeholders; draft speeches, correspondence, and publication-ready articles; and present information effectively to the media and in public outreach settings.
Licensing
A valid Nevada driver’s license is required.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual pay ranges from $125,000 to $145,000, depending on experience. The benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus 401 and 457 pension plans. As a quasi-state agency, the NSCB does not participate in the Nevada P.E.R.S. retirement program. More benefit details will be shared during the interview process.
