Role overview

The Human Resources Director will report directly to the General Manager, with an indirect functional reporting line to the Senior Director, HR for the region. As a member of the hotel executive committee, this leader will bring broad HR expertise to the property and help drive business outcomes through people strategy. The role covers talent acquisition, succession and workforce planning, performance management, employee development, and the effective use of technology. It also involves guiding and coaching others to support the hotel’s goals, operating with a high degree of independence, and building HR processes that align with wider business objectives and brand direction.

Education and experience

Candidates must meet one of the following combinations of qualifications:

  • An associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with 4 years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related area.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, along with 2 years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related area.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and follow through on employee engagement survey activities.
  • Build and strengthen the talent management group to support the hotel and region’s diversity strategy.
  • Translate business priorities into practical HR plans, initiatives, and actions.
  • Roll out and sustain HR programs and practices across the hotel.
  • Coordinate the hotel’s capital review process and, when needed, lead succession planning activities at property and market level.
  • Assess leadership pipeline needs through the capital review process and support follow-up actions.
  • Create business value through proactive HR actions that improve performance or reduce cost.
  • Ensure hotel managers and associates use myHR effectively.
  • Lead and participate in succession management and workforce planning.
  • Own HR strategy execution for the hotel.
  • Act as a change leader for major initiatives that affect associates.
  • Participate as part of the hotel executive committee in owner meetings and explain HR results in context, such as retention, open critical roles, employee satisfaction, training efforts, and outcomes.
  • Oversee one or more hotel HR functions and, where appropriate, market-based HR specialist support.
  • Review vacancies to balance internal development with business requirements.
  • Serve as a coach and expert coordinator for selection and interviewing activities.
  • Look for opportunities to improve workflow and staffing efficiency.
  • Make staffing decisions and manage talent pipelines and backup coverage for the hotel.
  • Develop staffing approaches in partnership with hiring managers, including discussion of compensation and benefits matters.
  • Track the outcomes of sourcing and staffing processes.
  • Make sure managers are equipped to evaluate hourly associates properly.
  • Stay current on internal and external compensation practices and the competitive labor market.
  • Lead planning for the overall reward strategy for hourly associates.
  • Support clear communication and proper use of compensation systems, tools, plans, and policies.
  • Participate in quarterly internal equity analysis and address issues identified in internal equity reports.
  • Design and implement reward packages and recognition programs that support hotel priorities.
  • Ensure hotel HR staff complete duties as defined in their job descriptions, where applicable.
  • Make sure HR team members are trained on associate-related HR information so they can respond appropriately to hotel employees.
  • Act as a resource for HR staff on employee relations matters.
  • Continuously reinforce a positive employee relations philosophy.
