Overview

A nonprofit organization is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead and enhance its HR functions. This role involves crafting and executing human resources policies, cultivating an inclusive and positive workplace environment, and ensuring adherence to employment laws at federal, state, and local levels. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership capabilities and experience in managing comprehensive HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align human resource strategies with the organization's mission and long-term objectives.
  • Advise senior leadership to influence general organizational direction.
  • Develop initiatives aimed at increasing staff engagement and improving the overall workplace climate.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and retention efforts.
  • Handle sensitive human resources matters with discretion and timely resolution.
  • Create and update policies, employee handbooks, and procedures compliant with relevant labor laws.
  • Manage human resources budgets in coordination with the Finance Department.
  • Analyze HR-related data and metrics, providing trend reports to leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or closely related discipline; Master’s degree in HR preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible HR experience, including leadership roles.
  • Professional HR certifications such as SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local labor regulations.
  • Experience working within nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Proven experience managing HR functions for organizations with multiple sites or remote teams.
  • Familiarity with grant compliance and HR requirements specific to federally funded programs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
