Role Overview
The Director of Finance will lead the financial operations of the hotel, providing strategic leadership and training to management. This role is key in driving profitability, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, complying with local and international financial regulations, and protecting owner and investor assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage cash flow matters, including precise and punctual preparation of cash flow statements, handling receivables and payables, safeguarding cash balances, implementing control mechanisms, and ensuring timely fund deposits.
- Ensure full compliance with all local fiscal laws and regulations affecting the hotel's financial activities, including securing all necessary permits and licenses such as those for currency transfers.
- Maintain and safeguard all legal documents including leases, contracts, and other records that impact the hotel's financial condition.
- Review and approve operational and financial reports including daily operation reports, monthly reports, monthly operational trend analyses, business source reports, and monthly auditor checklists.
- Track hotel revenues and expenses, guaranteeing accurate recording in line with internationally accepted standards.
- Analyze deviations from budget or previous years and propose actionable recommendations for improvement to management.
- Assist in capital planning by evaluating return on investments, supporting bidding processes, and ensuring property upkeep through evaluation of work scope and specifications.
- Ensure the hotel's compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and operational tax obligations, supporting management in enforcement.
- Evaluate financial data and hotel operations to help management achieve financial goals; ensure timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including bank reconciliations.
- Promote a culture of growth by actively participating in recruitment, performance reviews, and management of Controllers, Assistant Controllers, Accounting Managers, and other key personnel.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in the Middle East is mandatory, with a preference for those with experience in Qatar.
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, along with a professional accounting certification.
- At least 5 years of managerial experience encompassing preparation, review, analysis, and presentation of both management and statutory financial reports.
- Strong knowledge of hotel-specific internal controls and budgeting processes.
