Job summary
The Director of Construction will lead Barcelona Wine Bar’s new builds, major remodels, and other development initiatives. This position reports directly to the VP of Design and Development and is responsible for keeping construction work aligned with company standards, timelines, and budgets.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, examine, and manage general contractor agreements, payment requests, and change order documentation.
- Build and maintain construction standard operating procedures.
- Work with senior leaders, construction experts, and vendors to gather feedback and strengthen construction documents over time.
- Request bids and proposals from vendors and contractors, compare them to internal standards, and route them for approval.
- Partner with the development team and the on-site general contractor to ensure all stakeholders have the information, documents, and specifications needed to advance projects.
- Develop and oversee RFPs for professional services and owner-furnished vendors.
- Maintain CD logs, SK logs, and procurement tracking records.
- Support the creation of bid estimates that reflect full project build costs.
- Gather bid packages, compare submissions, and assess subcontractor pricing and scope.
- Coordinate closely with design, construction, facilities, and operations teams.
- Create project workflows and execution processes with the in-house design team, consultants, and contractors such as general contractors, kitchen equipment suppliers, signage vendors, and furniture partners.
- Assist with site evaluations, including building suitability, building age, utility access and location, site access, and ADA considerations.
- Liaise with municipal authorities and utility providers as needed.
- Review lease language related to construction and delivery requirements.
- Examine construction drawings and related documents.
- Monitor construction budgets, schedules, material planning, procurement timing for owner-furnished items, and quality control during the build.
- Track, review, and issue change orders, construction change directives, field changes, design and engineering revisions, and municipal or utility-driven updates affecting architectural, structural, and MEP work.

- Professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion with confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar business software.
Experience and education
The role requires more than 10 years of experience handling construction proposals and bidding. A background in restaurant general contracting, retail construction, or restaurant construction is preferred, though not mandatory. Hospitality industry experience is also strongly preferred but not required. An associate degree in architecture, construction, or a related discipline is preferred, but equivalent experience is acceptable.
