Department Overview
This role is open exclusively to residents of Colorado and is embedded within the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), specifically the Civil and Forensic Mental Health (CFMH) division. CFMH oversees state inpatient psychiatric hospitals, forensic services, transitional living homes, adolescent treatment facilities, and critical support units such as finance, information management, compliance, safety, and hospital police.
The position supports the Outpatient Services program, facilitating transitions for individuals moving from county jails and state mental health institutes to private hospitals for inpatient civil commitments across Colorado.
Role Summary
This is a fully remote position based at the employee's home with occasional travel mainly within the Denver metropolitan area for in-person meetings. Responsibilities include overseeing the Care Coordination Program, ensuring effective implementation and expansion to meet placement needs for civil certifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and direct the Care Coordination Program operations.
- Manage staffing by hiring allocated personnel within budgetary and timeline constraints.
- Make strategic decisions regarding staff recruitment, external partnerships, program planning, budgeting, and ongoing funding requisitions.
- Collaborate with Behavioral Health Administration and legislative stakeholders to facilitate smooth, compliant transfer and admission processes for certified individuals.
- Supervise a team of 18.0 full-time equivalents, including a Program Coordinator, Case Managers, Clinical Navigators, and a Program Assistant.
- Oversee internal workflow, promote employee well-being, and enhance team effectiveness.
- Perform any additional duties as required by the division or department.
Qualifications
- At least nine years of relevant experience related to the role or a combination of education and experience totaling nine years.
- Clinical licensure in good standing (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LP, or LAC) with ability to bill under CMS.
- Preferred: Leadership experience in behavioral health, familiarity with short-term certifications, strong skills in data tracking, reporting, and analysis.
- Experience designing and refining new programs, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of Behavioral Health Administration rules 27-65 and subject matter expertise in serious mental illness.
Employment Conditions

- Required immunizations including TB testing and annual influenza vaccination as mandated by Colorado.
- Potential in-state travel to various facilities and locations within Colorado.
