Director of Basketball Operations - Men's Basketball

Overview

The Director of Basketball Operations for the Men's Basketball team at University of the Pacific plays a key role in coordinating travel arrangements, overseeing academic development of student-athletes, and facilitating communication between the university, conference institutions, and the West Coast Conference office. This role requires excellent organizational skills, discretion in handling sensitive information, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle routine and complex issues independently and optimize administrative and operational processes.
• Coordinate all logistical details for team travel including booking flights, hotels, ground transportation, meals, and per diem for coaches, staff, and players.
• Manage budget by monitoring expenses for the team and staff, ensuring adherence to University financial policies and assisting with budget planning.
• Oversee academic performance of men's basketball student-athletes by tracking attendance, coordinating with academic advisors to ensure progress toward degree completion, and organizing study tables and tutoring sessions.
• Act as liaison between the head coach and internal/external University entities to support outreach activities.
• Develop guidelines and oversee social media programs for the men's basketball team within the West Coast Conference, providing training and education for staff and athletes.
• Plan marketing, promotional campaigns, and community engagement initiatives involving media, alumni, and civic groups to support the basketball program.
• Arrange housing accommodations for student-athletes throughout the academic year and summer.
• Participate in Booster Club meetings and related events to foster community support.
• Manage recruitment and supervision of student managers and work-study students responsible for practice preparation, statistics, and video collection.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the basketball operations.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• A minimum of two years related basketball experience including playing, coaching, or operations.

Preferred:

• Background in basketball recruiting and team travel logistics.
• Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills with ability to meet critical deadlines.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for direction and collaboration.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications and social media platforms.
• Understanding of budget monitoring and financial controls.
• Familiarity with NCAA, West Coast Conference, and Pacific policies relevant to student-athletes and recruits.
• Experience coordinating travel arrangements for large groups.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion within higher education.
• Capable of implementing culturally responsive practices.

Physical and Work Environment

• Primarily office-based work with demand for extended sitting and repetitive keyboard and phone use.
• Occasional standing, walking, stair climbing, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Work requires flexibility to accommodate recruiting, game, and events schedules.
• Extensive national and international travel is necessary.
• Valid driver's license and eligibility to drive University vehicles required.

Compensation and Conditions

• Annual salary starting at $70,304.
• Employment contingent on satisfactory background check and compliance with California AB 810 for misconduct disclosures.
