Job description
Role Summary
St. Mary Academy – Bay View is seeking a mission-driven Director of Athletics to guide and strengthen its schoolwide athletic program. Based in Riverside, Rhode Island, this full-time, 12-month leadership position reports to the Associate Head of School for Student Experience and is responsible for the overall direction of athletics across the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools.
The school is an independent Mercy Catholic institution serving 375 girls from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1874 by the Sisters of Mercy, it emphasizes academic excellence, leadership growth, service, athletics, and community involvement within a supportive all-girls environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead every part of the athletic program for students in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools.
- Manage, coach, evaluate, and help grow the athletic staff and coaching team.
- Oversee athletic budgeting, scheduling, transportation, equipment, facilities, and event-day operations.
- Act as the main point of contact with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and other related bodies.
- Advance student-athlete wellbeing, leadership development, and sportsmanship efforts.
- Handle communication with families and support conflict resolution when needed.
- Work closely with admissions, marketing, and communications teams to highlight athletics and build school spirit.
- Be available for evening and weekend athletic events throughout the year.
Candidate Profile
The school is looking for an experienced athletic leader who can combine strategic oversight with practical day-to-day management. The right person will be organized, collaborative, and effective at building strong relationships with students, families, faculty, and coaches.
