Director - Environmental

About the Role

This position leads the organization’s environmental agenda by steering assessment, planning, delivery, and ongoing refinement of environmental programs. The role is focused on strengthening innovation, meeting regulatory obligations, and ensuring that day-to-day operations stay aligned with both internal objectives and external requirements.

Strategy and Planning

• Support the creation of the HSSE business plan so it remains aligned with the wider KSIADC strategy.
• Build the Environmental operating plan in line with the HSSE business plan and the Sustainability and HSSE strategic direction.
• Put plans into action and contribute ideas that help deliver Environmental objectives and the organization’s broader strategic priorities.

Budget Management

• Work with senior management on Environmental budget needs and contribute to the annual budgeting cycle.
• Use the Environmental budget efficiently and provide clear updates on progress, issues, and any obstacles encountered.
• Monitor spending closely and report any variances against the approved budget.

Environmental Management

• Lead environmental assessments to understand compliance status, resource consumption, and environmental risks across KSIADC functions and projects.
• Review industry benchmarks and emerging practices to shape environmental policies that fit KSIADC’s goals and legal requirements.
• Coordinate the collection and analysis of baseline data to establish benchmarks for energy usage, emissions, and waste generation.
• Develop a detailed environmental action plan with timelines, owners, and resources for priority initiatives.
• Identify and assess high-impact initiatives such as waste reduction, emissions control, and resource conservation.
• Design monitoring approaches that allow environmental data to be tracked in real time and reported accurately.
• Create mitigation plans for identified environmental risks so projects remain compliant and avoid delays.
• Run workshops and awareness sessions to build employee understanding and encourage sustainability practices.

Implementation and Monitoring

• Ensure environmental initiatives are built into project design and delivery by coordinating with internal teams and outside stakeholders.
• Oversee waste management execution, including recycling, safe disposal, and compliance with hazardous materials requirements.
• Arrange routine inspections and site visits to check environmental compliance across construction areas, airport operations, and facilities.
• Measure and report environmental performance against targets such as energy efficiency and waste reduction.
• Supervise the rollout of EMS procedures so everyday operations support the overall environmental agenda.
• Assess the environmental impact of operational and development decisions and recommend practical improvements.
• Provide technical guidance to operational teams while environmental improvements are being implemented.
• Prepare comprehensive reports for leadership covering achievements, risks, and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Policies, Processes and Procedures

• Design and implement environmental policies and procedures across all relevant activities to ensure legislative and procedural compliance while delivering strong results efficiently.
• Keep up to date with best practices so systems, processes, and policies can be continuously improved.
• Stay informed on HSSE leading practices and new trends, and propose corrective actions, updates, and enhancements where needed.

Stakeholder Management

• Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Gather stakeholder feedback on issues and needs to identify barriers and create action plans.
• Maintain awareness of the local market, business opportunities, and regulatory environment.
• Attend relevant forums, seminars, and similar events to expand networks and stay current on new developments.

People Management

• Take part in identifying and recruiting key talent.
• Coach, guide, and support direct reports so they can carry out responsibilities in line with policies and processes.
• Set individual performance goals, provide support, evaluate team members, and offer regular feedback.
• Build a high-performance culture and reinforce KSIADC values.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field is required. A master’s degree in Environmental Management, Occupational Health, or an equivalent discipline is preferred.

Experience

The role requires at least 8 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 4 years in a managerial capacity.
