Director Cost & Commercial, Data Centres

Role overview

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced cost management professional to join Gleeds Arabia and lead major data centre commissions across Riyadh, Dubai, and the wider GCC. The position focuses on pre- and post-contract cost management for data centre construction, while also supporting the growth of the business in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the broader region.

As part of the leadership team, the successful candidate will act as a representative of the business, build strong client partnerships, win new work, and deliver high-quality cost consultancy services on complex projects.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and pursue new business opportunities to support regional growth.
• Prepare and lead bids for new programmes and framework agreements.
• Ensure all commissions follow company governance, procedures, and control standards.
• Provide cost management services that consistently meet or exceed client expectations.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Lead teams and work with Associate Directors to manage staffing, workload, and resource planning.
• Oversee people-related processes such as appraisals, training, and timesheets.
• Support employee retention and development through effective team leadership.
• Strengthen and expand the company’s cost management capability.
• Collaborate effectively with other directors across the region.

Experience and expertise required

• At least 20 years of cost management experience after MRICS qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of living and working experience in the GCC.
• Strong specialist knowledge of the data centre sector, both locally and internationally.
• Proven background in leading cost consultancy assignments.
• Hands-on expertise in cost estimating and cost planning methods.
• Solid understanding of construction procurement approaches, including tendering and contract strategy.
• Ability to inspire, guide, and encourage team members.
• Strong organisational ability and adaptability in fast-changing environments.
• Well-developed networking skills.
• Demonstrated experience of engaging senior data centre clients and stakeholders in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• FRICS or MRICS membership, or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent field.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Arabic language skills are preferred.
