Role Overview
The Director of Communications at Walt Disney Imagineering will function as a strategic executive leader shaping and advancing the communications vision internally and externally. This position focuses on amplifying compelling storytelling, bolstering senior leadership visibility, and fostering trust and engagement with diverse audiences. Reporting to the Vice President of WDI Communications, this role leads internal and executive communication efforts to align with business priorities and promote the Imagineering brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and articulate a long-term strategic vision for internal and executive communications aligned with Walt Disney Imagineering’s objectives.
- Lead and mentor senior communication managers to build creative, agile, and high-performing teams within a dynamic culture.
- Define clear communication goals and priorities that connect team initiatives with business outcomes.
- Act as a strategic adviser to WDI leadership, crafting comprehensive communication plans that enhance reputation and support organizational aims.
- Oversee executive communication team activities including speech writing, talking points, bylines, and thought leadership to position leaders as innovation authorities.
- Transform internal communications with compelling storytelling, town halls, and organizational messages to keep employees engaged and informed.
- Identify and create opportunities for executive visibility on social and owned media platforms to expand brand equity.
- Set measurable goals, evaluate performance metrics, and utilize data-driven insights to optimize communication impact and return on investment.
- Manage resources, budgets, and timelines to ensure project completion within scope and financial limits.
- Champion modern, digital-forward communication tactics to broaden engagement with global audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Over 10 years of professional communications experience, including at least 5 years in leadership roles, with specialized expertise in executive communications.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Proven leadership in managing teams and coaching senior leaders to achieve high performance and foster diversity.
- Experience designing impactful digital campaigns that enhance executive presence and strengthen brand reputation.
- Strong capability in developing and executing integrated communication strategies that build trust, reputation, and brand loyalty among internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in evolving internal communications beyond standard updates into engaging storytelling formats.
- Exceptional storytelling, writing, and presentation skills with experience preparing executive messaging, speaking points, or thought leadership materials.
- Skillful in nurturing senior leader relationships and providing consultative guidance within complex matrix organizations.
- Exemplary organizational and project management skills managing multifaceted portfolios, budgets, and deadlines in fast-paced environments.
- Creative approach to enhancing brand narratives while preserving alignment with strategic brand goals.
- Highly professional, politically astute, and discreet in handling sensitive information and executive interactions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading executive or internal communications for Fortune 500 companies or similarly complex organizations, including oversight of senior communication leaders.
- Background in sectors such as travel, theme parks, entertainment, technology, or related industries.
- A passion for the Disney brand and dedication to exceptional guest experiences.
- Successful history of generating proactive campaigns to advance leadership thought leadership through public speaking, publications, media positioning, and executive social media.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related discipline required.
- Advanced degrees in Communications or analogous fields preferred.
Additional Information
- This position is based onsite in Glendale, California.
- The anticipated salary range for this role within California spans from $185,500 to $248,800 annually. Actual compensation offered will consider internal equity, geographic location, knowledge, skills, experience, and other relevant factors. Bonus and long-term incentives may be included along with a full suite of medical, financial, and other benefits commensurate with the level and placement.
