Job Overview

Northwood is seeking two dedicated Dietary Aides to join our Halifax Campus team. Reporting to the Manager of Food and Nutrition Services, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality meal service to residents, as well as support special functions across our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare beverages, meals, and special food items following established routines and recipes.
• Deliver efficient dining room service including set up, serving, sanitation, portioning, labeling, and distribution of desserts, beverages, and supplies.
• Ensure accurate meal presentation and compliance with diet modifications and supplements as ordered.
• Maintain clear communication and cooperation with nursing staff, reporting any concerns promptly to the Food Service Supervisor.
• Clean and set up dining areas, manage dishwashing either manually or with machines.
• Ensure sanitation of personal work area and all food service equipment aligned with HACCP standards.
• Respond promptly to requests via communication systems ensuring quality meal service.
• Participate in nourishment preparation and delivery, maintaining stock control and rotation while managing waste and cost effectively.
• Uphold table settings and dining room appearance to a high standard.
• Perform additional related duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two to three years of experience in food service, preferably within long-term health care settings.
• Certification in Food Service Workers Course is advantageous.
• Basic Food Safety Certification considered an asset.
• Experience assisting elderly residents within decentralized meal service systems preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Reliable and consistent attendance is essential.

Additional Details

• Start Date: Immediate.
• Working hours: 84 hours biweekly, structured as 12-hour shifts.
• Salary and benefits: As per the Unifor Collective Agreement.
