Job description
Role Overview
The Dietary Aide position supports food service operations based on the demands of each shift. Reporting to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor, the aide assists in various kitchen duties to maintain efficient service.
Key Duties
- Quickly master food service procedures to ensure smooth workflow.
- Assemble and arrange meal trays.
- Clear returned trays and initiate dishwashing processes.
- Help serve meals across different shifts.
- Check and document chlorine levels and water temperatures of dishwashing equipment at shift start.
- Monitor dishwasher water temperatures throughout cleaning cycles.
- Use the dishwasher effectively.
- Prepare snacks and nourishment items.
- Keep kitchen floors clean by sweeping and mopping.
- Dispose of trash and garbage timely and hygienically.
- Store groceries carefully in a clean and organized manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces and refrigerators.
- Support the cook or supervisor by assisting with any additional tasks.
- Contribute to orientation and ongoing training sessions for dietary staff.
- Work harmoniously with staff across all departments.
Supervisory Duties
This role does not include any supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent education.
- Capability to read and understand technical instructions and recipes.
- Effective communication skills to interact with managers and colleagues.
- Basic math skills including understanding fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to comprehend written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
- Requirement to obtain and maintain a valid food handler's certificate.
Physical Requirements
The role demands frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, duties may involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision abilities needed include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception with focus adjustment.
