Role summary
This position is for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a varied fleet of heavy construction machinery, including excavators, cranes, piling rigs, and telehandlers. The role is centred at the Drury workshop, with regular time spent on project sites, and is very much a practical, hands-on trade role that helps keep operations safe and productive.
Working pattern
Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.
Key duties
- Troubleshoot and fix diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical problems.
- Perform routine servicing in line with manufacturer guidance and internal maintenance standards.
- Attend to breakdowns in both workshop and field settings.
- Complete pre-start and post-service checks, and keep job card documentation accurate and up to date.
- Assist with plant compliance requirements, certifications, and audit processes.
- Work alongside operations teams to reduce equipment downtime as much as possible.
What you need
You should hold a relevant trade qualification in Heavy Diesel or Automotive Engineering and bring proven experience working on heavy civil or construction plant, including cranes, piling rigs, or specialist civil equipment. Strong diagnostic ability across hydraulics, diesel systems, and electrics is essential. A Class 2 licence or higher is required, along with welding and fabrication capability. You must also be able to interpret service manuals and technical schematics, communicate clearly in both spoken and written form, and be prepared to travel to sites throughout New Zealand as needed. The role may also involve occasional after-hours breakdown support.
