Die Cast Operator

Role overview

APL Window Solutions is seeking a capable and driven Die Cast Operator to work in a practical, machine-focused role in Waikato, New Zealand. This position involves setting up and operating diecasting equipment, managing associated tooling and support equipment, and helping keep production running smoothly while meeting quality expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare tooling and auxiliary equipment for production cycles.
• Run diecasting machines along with the supporting machinery needed for production.
• Load raw materials and keep an eye on them throughout the manufacturing process.
• Check product quality and fine-tune machine settings to stay within required specifications.
• Make sure tooling is ready for the next run, including cleaning and insert replacements where needed.
• Move tooling, materials, and parts using a forklift and/or gantry crane when certified to do so.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across setup, operation, and maintenance activities.
• Work in line with company health and safety standards at all times.
• Use the required personal protective equipment whenever on the job.
• Escalate any hazards, incidents, accidents, or near misses without delay.

Skills and experience

• A NZQA National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Background in diecasting or plastic injection moulding is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting ability and a sharp eye for detail.
• Ability to organise your own workload and respond well to shifting priorities.
• Solid communication skills and a team-oriented approach.
• Good physical fitness, including the ability to handle heavy equipment and remain on your feet for long periods.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel at a basic level.
• Willingness to work occasional night shifts or weekend shifts when required.
