Job description
Role Overview
This is a desk-based home assessment position for someone with a trade background who wants to move away from physical site work while still applying practical building knowledge every day. Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting or plastering is especially relevant, as the role relies on understanding how homes are built and how damage should be repaired.
Working from the office, you will review assessments, quotations and specialist reports provided by service partners. Your job is to decide what can be repaired, what can be restored and what needs to be replaced, using the evidence available and sound judgement. Some matters will be clear-cut, while others will call for careful reasoning when damage is hard to see or the information is incomplete.
Most of your time will be spent moving through several systems, recording decisions accurately and collaborating with repairers so claims continue progressing. You will also act as a key contact for customers when needed, helping explain outcomes and what the next steps will be.
This is a full-time Monday to Friday role with no travel to sites and no weather-related interruptions.
Key Duties
- Review photos, reports and builder quotations to determine whether damage should be repaired or replaced.
- Use trade knowledge, policy guidelines and cost estimation skills to decide suitable repair approaches and expected costs.
- Work across multiple internal systems to assess information, document decisions and keep claims moving.
- Partner with repairers to verify scopes, question inconsistencies and support safe, fair outcomes.
- Communicate with customers when necessary, explaining decisions in plain language and setting clear expectations.
- Handle a portfolio of assessments and prioritise tasks to prevent delays.
What Success Looks Like
- Applying trade qualifications to make accurate repair decisions from the office.
- Connecting information from different sources to reach fair conclusions, even when the data is not complete.
- Keeping records clear and detailed so others can follow the reasoning without rework.
- Staying organised and managing workload effectively when volumes increase.
- Working collaboratively with repairers and internal teammates to solve problems.
- Helping customers understand the process and next steps through practical communication.
Benefits and Perks
- Annual salary reviews and 22 days of annual leave.
- Regular team activities, recognition and events to strengthen connection across the business.
- Paid training from day one, with ongoing direction and coaching as you settle into the role.
- Wellbeing-focused extras such as free skin checks, flu vaccinations and wellbeing sessions.
- Discounted gym memberships and discounted insurance through the employer.
- A purpose-driven role that helps customers recover when things go wrong.
