Designer - Furniture Application Specialist

Role overview

This position focuses on furniture design support, space planning, and specification work for contract furniture, systems furniture, and related interior furnishings. The role is responsible for turning customer space needs into practical plans while staying within approved timelines and budgets. It reports to the National Manager, Furniture Design Services and involves coordination with clients, prospects, vendors, sales, design, project coordination, order management, delivery/install, and architectural/design/construction partners.

Key duties

• Work closely with the sales team to develop furniture layouts and space plans for client offices, including visiting customer sites to verify measurements, finishes, and other project details when needed.
• Create space plans, select furniture, prepare layouts and pricing, support standards programs, and choose fabrics and finishes. Also prepare as-built drawings, space plans, and final installation drawings for specification and installation.
• Represent the company professionally in client meetings, whether in person or virtual, to understand furniture requirements and build suitable solutions.
• Manage tender processes by reviewing tender documentation, furniture specifications, application details, and product strategy. Support product strategy and value engineering discussions, identify any deviations from the furniture specification, and help answer RFP-related qualification questions.
• Provide both technical and creative guidance to customers by responding to standard and complex questions about furniture systems.
• Check plans against construction, electrical engineering, and architect/designer drawing sets, flag inconsistencies, and perform on-site inspections to compare drawings with the completed build-out.

Required background

A bachelor’s degree in Interior Design is preferred, though related studies such as Architectural Technologist are also relevant. The role requires at least 2 years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and practical experience. Experience in the office furniture industry, familiarity with systems furniture, and customer-facing experience are required. Candidates must also have hands-on experience with furniture design and specification software, along with working knowledge of AutoCAD, CET, and 2020 CAP.

Working conditions
