RMW architecture & interiors is a forward-thinking, award-winning architecture and interior design practice known for its collaborative environment. The firm focuses on creating engaging workplaces for leading companies and is currently expanding its San Francisco studio.

Role Summary

The Designer 2 will contribute to interior design projects across multiple phases, including programming, survey and field verification, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. The position works closely with other team members, receives mentorship from designers and architects, and may operate independently on smaller assignments or as part of a larger team on complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

This role involves developing early design concepts, preparing documentation, and supporting project teams through design and construction stages. The designer will collaborate with project leadership on program, budget, design direction, and schedule, while also assisting with material selection, consultant coordination, and construction administration tasks.

Technical and Design Duties

  • Develop early design ideas and supporting documentation, then present them for internal review.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager, Job Captain, and broader team on program, design, budget, and timeline decisions.
  • Create 3D studies, models, drawings, and renderings with guidance, and help junior staff when needed.
  • Contribute to presentation materials that clearly communicate design concepts to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Explore multiple design directions with input from senior team members.
  • Apply building code knowledge and technical understanding throughout the project process.
  • Use company standards, details, and documentation formats consistently.
  • Produce design and construction drawing sets.
  • Work within standard templates, details, and forms used by the firm.
  • Research manufacturers and help select materials, finishes, furniture, and building systems aligned with project objectives.
  • Assist in developing early concepts that integrate building systems, structure, and technology requirements.
  • Coordinate consultant work during design phases with supervision.
  • Prepare drawing backgrounds for consultants.
  • Support construction administration through site visits, RFIs, and submittal review.

Qualifications

  • Professional degree or an approved equivalent credential.
  • Currently pursuing licensure or certification, or already completed it.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Capability to deliver high-quality design work.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with an understanding of design, building systems, and materials.
  • Introductory familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, rendering tools, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $78,000 to $90,000 per year.
