Role Purpose

The Deputy Manager - Aviation Safety is responsible for ensuring that airside safety processes are implemented effectively, risks are reduced, and regulatory requirements are met. The role supports the growth of a strong safety culture, carries out assessments, and encourages safety awareness in line with DGCA standards and internal procedures.

Key Responsibilities

This position involves carrying out safety inspections, tracking incidents, coordinating corrective actions, supporting emergency preparedness, and strengthening compliance across aviation safety, occupational health and safety, and environmental requirements.

Safety Inspections and Risk Control

• Perform regular safety checks across airside operations to confirm compliance with statutory and internal safety standards.
• Spot hazards during inspections and work with the relevant teams to reduce or eliminate identified risks.

Incident Recording and Follow-up

• Record and escalate safety incidents and near misses, and assist with investigations by collecting details and preparing documentation.
• Track incident follow-up actions with the Lead and related teams to ensure corrective measures are completed and repeat issues are prevented.

Emergency Preparedness

• Support the planning and execution of emergency drills so that personnel remain prepared for response procedures.
• Review drill outcomes and assist in updating emergency action plans to match regulatory expectations and operational requirements.

Safety Communication and Training

• Deliver periodic safety briefings and OHS training for airside personnel to reinforce compliance with current procedures.
• Share updated safety notices and reminders to sustain awareness across operational teams.

Data Handling and Trend Review

• Maintain complete and accurate records of inspections, incidents, and safety observations.
• Carry out basic trend analysis to identify repeat concerns and improvement opportunities, and share insights with the Lead for planning.

Investigations and Preventive Action

• Investigate safety incidents by gathering evidence, speaking with witnesses, and determining root causes.
• Help implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence and drive continuous improvement.

Policy, Safety Management, and Compliance Support

• Assist in rolling out OHS policies and procedures across the airport and ensure they are understood and followed.
• Support implementation of the Safety Management Plan and help conduct hazard assessments in line with OHSAS and SMS standards.
• Contribute to environmental compliance activities under the Environmental Management Plan, including data collection, record maintenance, and reporting as required by ISO 14001.
• Support health compliance tracking by documenting health-related activities, maintaining records accurately, and assisting with non-conformity closures.

Stakeholder Coordination

Internal stakeholders include the Lead - Aviation Safety (Regional), Airside Operations team, Engineering and Maintenance, Security team, Compliance department, and Ground Handling Agents. External stakeholders include DGCA, BCAS, airport concessionaires, airlines, and emergency response agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Aerospace Engineering, Safety Management, or a related discipline is required. A postgraduate qualification in Aviation Safety or Safety Management is preferred. Relevant certifications may include Airport Safety and Operations Specialist (ASOS), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Project Management Professional (PMP), and DGCA Aerodrome Safety Management System (SMS) training. The role calls for 3 to 5 years of experience in aviation safety, airside operations, or a similar position within the aviation industry.
