Job description
Overview
We are seeking a Deputy Director for Food Operations to take complete ownership of the operational performance of our Food division. This role involves executing strategies to optimize processes and improve profitability in a high-frequency, fast-paced environment that demands precision and quick decision-making. Reporting directly to the COO, you will transform strategic plans into disciplined and measurable operational outcomes, managing vendor performance, delivery efficiency, cost control, and overall vertical health.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the COO to develop and implement the Food operations strategy, translating priorities into clear KPIs and execution plans.
- Ensure steady order growth while maintaining contribution margins and operational stability.
- Prepare operations for expansions, new initiatives, and structural improvements.
- Manage core performance metrics including fulfillment rates, SLA adherence, cancellation rates, delivery time, cost per order, rider productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Optimize supply-demand balance in high-density operational areas.
- Design incentive mechanisms for riders and restaurant partners aligned with economic objectives.
- Collaborate with Finance to create profitability models and implement cost-control measures.
- Analyze operational details like preparation timing, dispatch logic, batching effects, and their impact on margins.
- Identify inefficiencies throughout the Food operations lifecycle and resolve them with data-based problem solving; standardize procedures to improve consistency.
- Partner with Product and Technology teams to automate manual workflows and enhance dispatch, batching, and visibility systems.
- Lead root cause investigations for service disruptions and establish preventive corrective actions.
- Monitor restaurant operational performance, focusing on preparation times, acceptance rates, SLA compliance, and order quality.
- Collaborate with Commercial teams to ensure operational feasibility during onboarding and scaling phases.
- Reduce friction between logistics and restaurant partners through structured performance frameworks and accountability mechanisms.
- Conduct weekly and monthly performance reviews using data and insights.
- Create and refine dashboards, reports, and scorecards to drive operational decisions.
- Utilize demand forecasting, cohort analysis, and behavioral data to uncover growth and efficiency opportunities and take decisive action when metrics change.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 10 years in operations, with at least 5 to 7 years working in food delivery, high-frequency platforms, or tech-enabled logistics.
- Experience operating in dense, competitive markets is critical.
- Preferable background includes logistics, food operations, commercial strategy, or product operations in leading global platforms.
- Deep understanding of supply-demand dynamics, incentive schemes, batching methods, dispatch optimization, and unit economics.
- Strong analytical skills with familiarity in BI tools, SQL, and performance dashboards required.
- MBA or equivalent advanced qualifications are advantageous.
- Demonstrates high cognitive capacity, emotional durability, and the capability to perform under continuous pressure.
- Displays decisive ownership, makes quick tough calls, and consistently delivers without requiring guidance.
