Job description
Role Overview
L’Arche Cork is looking for a part-time Dedicated Day Service Support worker to provide one-to-one assistance for a man in his thirties who has autism and prefers individual support rather than group-based activities. This is a permanent position for 18 hours each week.
What the Role Involves
- Create a respectful, person-centred relationship with the individual, always recognising his needs, wishes, and preferences.
- Develop a strong working connection with his family and carers through regular contact so the support remains responsive and tailored.
- Help improve his quality of life by enabling access to hobbies, interests, and other supports, including the use of assistive technology such as Zoom and driving as needed.
- Keep in regular communication with L’Arche about progress, challenges, and support needs so that care can be continually improved.
Requirements
- At least QQI Level 5 in Social Care, or a comparable qualification.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in intellectual disability services; relevant experience in related settings may also be taken into account. Lived experience will also be considered.
- Good time management skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach.
- Comfort and capability in supporting behaviours that may be challenging.
- Strong basic IT skills.
- Commitment to best-practice standards, legal and organisational policies, particularly around safeguarding, confidentiality, and accountability.
- A full, clean driving licence.
- Successful Garda vetting is required for appointment.
Working Arrangements
The role requires a degree of flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the person supported.
Salary
The pay is aligned to the HSE Health Care Assistant scale, ranging from €29,403 to €44,190 per year, pro rata.
