Job description
Role Overview
Joyce University is looking for an accomplished academic leader to guide its General Education division. This position is central to the university’s mission of advancing student achievement, innovation, and purposeful education in healthcare and beyond.
As the Dean of General Education, you will shape the academic base that supports every learner’s progress. You will lead curriculum strategy, strengthen faculty performance, and partner with university leaders to ensure students gain the communication, critical thinking, and lifelong learning abilities needed for success.
The role reports to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer and combines strategic leadership with day-to-day operational oversight.
Key Duties
- Direct the planning, creation, rollout, evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of the General Education curriculum.
- Make sure the curriculum aligns with institutional outcomes, competency-based education, accreditation expectations, workforce demands, and current higher education practices.
- Promote strong, student-focused teaching standards and encourage innovative instructional methods across all General Education courses.
- Hire, coach, develop, and retain a high-performing group of faculty and academic leaders focused on student success.
- Support evidence-driven curriculum development, interdisciplinary work, and teaching innovation across the university.
- Lead efforts that improve persistence, retention, academic progression, and graduation through proactive support and data-based interventions.
- Guide remediation approaches and student success initiatives that improve college readiness and help students overcome academic challenges.
- Support online, hybrid, asynchronous, and technology-enabled learning, including thoughtful use of new educational technologies and artificial intelligence.
- Work closely with Institutional Research, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Advising, Disability Services, and other leaders to improve outcomes and the student experience.
- Manage assessment, accreditation preparation, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement work.
- Contribute as a core member of the Academic Leadership Team on strategy, resources, and university-wide priorities.

Required Qualifications
- A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education.
- Background in faculty leadership, curriculum development, academic operations, and continuous quality improvement.
- Proven experience with accreditation, assessment, and institutional effectiveness.
- Demonstrated success leading organizational change, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in Higher Education, Education, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field.
- Experience implementing competency-based education.
- Leadership experience in online and hybrid learning settings.
- Experience advancing faculty development and instructional innovation.
- Experience with regional accreditation, assessment systems, and learning analytics.
