Job Overview

Trustfund Pensions Corporate Communications is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to oversee database development and maintenance aligning with organizational objectives in Nigeria. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of database standards, security, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with end users, managers, and stakeholders to define and pursue long-term strategic plans for database systems.
  • Analyze user needs and create detailed functional specifications for database applications.
  • Plan and manage capacity expansion and resource allocation to ensure scalability.
  • Design redundancy systems and disaster recovery plans to protect data availability and integrity.
  • Develop data tables, forms, reports, and queries.
  • Research and recommend appropriate database technologies and standards for procurement and development.
  • Work alongside technical teams to build relational and secondary databases.
  • Create automated database applications using relevant database tools as needed.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to data entry, retrieval, and modification to maintain high data availability.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure database functions meet project requirements.
  • Detect inefficiencies in databases and implement improvements.
  • Install and configure necessary components to guarantee database access.
  • Troubleshoot and fix database performance and access problems.
  • Prepare cost estimates and coordinate data migration during system upgrades.
  • Select hardware, RDBMS, ETL software, metadata tools, and database design solutions.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to junior team members.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree and professional certifications are advantageous.
  • At least six years of proven experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Practical understanding of database standards and end-user applications.
  • Strong proficiency in data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL.
  • Knowledge of database design, documentation, and coding.
  • Experience with programming language APIs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data flowcharting techniques.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Competence in gathering and analyzing business requirements.
  • Awareness of organizational objectives and goals.
  • Knowledge of relevant data privacy laws and best practices.
