QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey is looking for a Data Scientist II to join its London-based team. In this role, you will work on advanced analytics and machine learning solutions that address complex business problems for clients across industries. The position combines hands-on technical work, client engagement, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
What you will do
- Partner with clients and internal teams to shape analytical solutions that solve real business challenges.
- Turn business needs into structured analytical problems and design models to address them.
- Evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics and refine solutions based on results.
- Improve code quality and contribute to internal tools and reusable analytics assets.
- Support research and development initiatives and participate in cutting-edge technical projects.
- Work with data scientists, data engineers, machine learning engineers, designers, and product managers across regions.
- Help design and deploy machine learning and AI solutions that create measurable business impact.
- Contribute to conference-level work and, where relevant, attend or present at events such as NIPS and ICML.
- Identify patterns in data and use them to improve client operations and competitive advantage.

What you need
- A bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in a technical discipline such as computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of professional experience using machine learning and data mining to solve practical problems with large datasets.
- Hands-on programming experience with SQL and Python’s data science ecosystem.
- Working knowledge of at least one big data technology such as PySpark, Hive, or Hadoop.
- Capability to build and deploy statistical and machine learning models, and convert analytical findings into actionable solutions.
- Solid understanding of machine learning methods in data-rich settings.
- Exposure to deploying ML/AI solutions in production or business environments is an advantage.
- Familiarity with tools such as Python, PySpark, Airflow, Databricks, Kedro, Dask/RAPIDS, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure is helpful.
- Interest in Generative AI and agentic systems is a strong plus.
- Good time management and comfort working autonomously in a complex environment.
- Willingness to travel.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt to different audiences and seniority levels.
