Job description

About Mira

Mira is a San Francisco-headquartered hormonal health company offering integrative care and hormone testing to more than 300,000 customers. In 2023, Inc. 5000 named it the fastest-growing femtech company in the United States.

The company developed the first FDA-compliant at-home hormone monitor with quantitative testing technology. Its goal is to make hormone data easy to access and interpret so women can make informed health choices throughout life, including cycle health, family planning, hormonal imbalance management, and the menopause transition.

Mira focuses on improving real outcomes through personalized insights, advanced technology, and science-based data that turns hormone information into practical guidance for everyday wellness.

About the Role

Mira is developing the next generation of women’s hormonal health tools through quantitative hormone tracking. It is looking for a strong Data Scientist to become the first member of its data science team and help shape the algorithmic base behind the product.

This role offers the chance to define what should be measured, why it matters, and how to turn complex hormonal data from diverse populations into production-ready algorithms. The work sits at the intersection of reproductive biology, machine learning, and regulated medical device development, with outputs that directly power consumer product features.

The position reports to the Head of R&D and is expected to grow into a leadership role as the company scales.

Responsibilities

  • Create and refine biomarkers, algorithms, and data-backed insights for the Mira app.
  • Study hormone data, menstrual-cycle patterns, app usage, and user outcomes to uncover trends and product opportunities.
  • Design, test, and validate models for ovulation prediction, cycle modeling, hormone interpretation, and tailored recommendations.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Engineering, R&D, and the Real-World Evidence Scientist to convert analysis into app features and evidence-led insights.
  • Contribute to real-world evidence and clinical research work through data extraction, exploratory analysis, modeling, and validation.
  • Set up validation and model-performance methods, including uncertainty handling, subgroup analysis, missing-data checks, and edge-case review.
  • Strengthen data quality by spotting tracking gaps and suggesting better in-app data capture.
  • Clearly record model assumptions, limitations, logic, and appropriate use cases for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to move prototypes into production-ready app functionality or data pipelines.

Requirements

  • Excellent Python skills and solid data science capability; SQL knowledge is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience working with longitudinal, time-series, behavioral, health, wearable, physiological, or biomarker datasets.
  • Background in consumer health, digital health, wearables, diagnostics, medical devices, SaMD, or IVD.
  • Strong judgment in model validation, including missing-data treatment, leakage prevention, robustness testing, and performance evaluation across user groups.
  • Ability to convert data analysis into user-facing features, metrics, recommendations, or algorithms.
  • Experience building models, scoring systems, or analytical frameworks that affected product, clinical, or business choices.
  • Clear communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong ownership mindset, startup pace, and comfort operating with uncertainty.
  • Sound scientific judgment and the ability to separate product insights from clinical or marketing claims.
  • Experience with menstrual cycle, fertility, reproductive health, hormones, or women’s health data is a plus.
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative, biomedical, physics, or health-related discipline is preferred.
  • Exposure to Bayesian statistics, signal processing, causal inference, survival analysis, or longitudinal modeling is advantageous.
  • Experience taking ML or algorithmic features into production is a plus.
  • Familiarity with clinical validation, regulatory documentation, claim support, or peer-reviewed research is helpful.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to join a rapidly scaling femtech company with a mission to improve women’s health and widen access to care.
  • Work with a driven, international team focused on creating meaningful impact.
  • Fast-moving startup environment where your contribution influences growth, strategy, and key decisions.
  • Strong room for career progression, including the chance to shape and build teams as the company expands.
  • Flexible fully remote work setup with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.
  • Competitive compensation plus a performance bonus linked to OKRs.
