Job description

Main Purpose

This role is designed to bolster the bank's data governance framework. The Data Officer will collaborate with Technical Data Stewards, orchestrate data governance initiatives, ensure adherence to governance standards, and assist Data Owners in maintaining data integrity, security, compliance, and business usability.

Role Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and sustain robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders by offering expert advice and support.
  • Leverage experience and knowledge to discern actual client needs from perceived ones, ensuring all actions align with company policies, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain consistent client engagement through regular written, verbal, and face-to-face communication, providing updates on progress.
  • Consistently strive to exceed client expectations, thereby fostering a positive organizational image.
  • Uphold the principle of fair treatment for all internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with and support a team of Technical Data Stewards to ensure the effective and uniform execution of governance activities across all data domains.
  • Manage and oversee workloads, establish priorities, offer guidance, and conduct performance evaluations for the team.
  • Track stewardship deliverables and ensure governance tasks are completed within stipulated timelines and to established standards.
  • Monitor data quality indicators and reports, coordinate the investigation of data quality anomalies, track corrective actions, and provide oversight to guarantee timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Assist Data Owners and Business Data Stewards in implementing data quality controls and driving continuous improvement efforts.
  • Supervise the upkeep of business glossaries, data dictionaries, critical data element documentation, metadata repositories, and data lineage records.
  • Ensure that all metadata artifacts are accurate, comprehensive, and conform to established governance standards.
  • Support the execution of data governance awareness programs, training sessions, and communication strategies to enhance data literacy and promote responsible data management practices throughout the bank.
  • Aid in internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance assessments.
  • Coordinate the gathering of necessary documentation, track audit findings, and monitor the closure of remediation actions.

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Possession of a CDMP certification is required.
  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years of professional experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Business Analysis, Information Management, Data Quality, or a similar domain.
  • Proficiency in supporting governance processes, maintaining governance documentation, tracking action items, and coordinating governance activities.
  • Experience in monitoring data quality controls, analyzing quality metrics, investigating issues, and supporting remediation efforts.
  • Skilled in maintaining business glossaries, data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and data lineage documentation.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive governance reports, dashboards, and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) packs for management and governance committees.
  • Experience in logging, tracking, escalating, and monitoring the resolution of data-related issues and risks.
  • Aptitude for assisting in the monitoring of compliance against established governance policies, standards, and regulatory mandates.
  • Competence in preparing governance reports, dashboards, and metrics for presentation to management committees.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Data Owners, Data Stewards, technology teams, and business users.
  • Experience in maintaining governance artifacts, policies, standards, procedures, and evidence required for audits and compliance reviews.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong documentation abilities.
  • A solid understanding of system architecture and its implications for the analytics environment.
  • Working knowledge of Data Governance and Management principles, aligned with the DAMA model.
