Data Entry/Registration - Public Health Adviser Level I

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Only permanent employees holding the specified title and those listed on the Public Health Adviser Civil Service List are eligible to apply for this position. Candidates must meet defined educational and experiential qualifications outlined below.

About the Bureau and Position

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics' Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) program aims to enhance the sexual health and wellness of New Yorkers by providing direct clinic services, partner services, disease monitoring, education, research, and policy development. With 8 clinics citywide, the Public Health Advisers support these efforts under clinic management supervision.

Primary Responsibilities

• Posting laboratory test results accurately.
• Providing greeting and reception services in the clinic.
• Collecting fingerstick specimens and performing phlebotomy as required.
• Maintaining current CPR/BLS certification for emergency readiness.
• Handling clerical duties such as patient registration efficiently.
• Contacting patients with reactive test results via text, phone, and email to ensure follow-up.
• Managing callbacks for patients who miss appointments and assisting with rescheduling as necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree including or supplemented with 12 semester credits in health education, or health, social or biological sciences; or
• Bachelor's degree with six months of full-time experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention involving interviewing, field investigations, risk assessments, referrals, or epidemiological data collection and analysis; or
• High school diploma/equivalent plus four years of relevant full-time experience as described above; or
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience, subject to substitution rules based on academic credits and experience.

Additional Experience for Assignment Level II

Candidates seeking Assignment Level II must meet the minimum qualifications plus have at least one year as a Public Health Adviser Level I or an additional year of qualifying health promotion/intervention experience.
