Overview
Join Microsoft as a Data Center Technician (DCT) Manager, where you will oversee a team of technicians responsible for deploying hardware, diagnosing equipment issues, and handling hardware decommissioning. You will support technician performance by assigning priorities and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs). Key Responsibilities
- Enable success by empowering your team, fostering accountability, and building a constructive and positive team atmosphere.
- Ensure full compliance with data center service standards and quality benchmarks.
- Guide your team to adhere strictly to Data Center Services policies, deadlines, and change management procedures.
- Train technicians thoroughly on installation, deployment, replacement methods, and quality verification processes.
- Confirm technicians complete quality checks post-deployment and address any discrepancies with corrective measures.
- Escalate technical issues appropriately and ensure resolution while disseminating related knowledge among relevant groups.
- Assess impacts of process modifications on service delivery and communicate changes effectively across teams.
- Lead team and triage meetings to prioritize tasks and adjust workflows in response to evolving demands.
- Complete mandatory safety training, lead daily safety briefings, and actively participate in site safety committees.
- Monitor and enforce all safety protocols including personal protective equipment (PPE) use and safe handling of tools and hazards.
- Promote a safety-first culture, encouraging technicians to report and address safety concerns proactively.
- Take ownership of service quality and maintain accountability for data center operational excellence and customer experience.
- Exemplify Microsoft’s organizational culture and corporate values in everyday actions and leadership.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, combined with fundamental knowledge of computer hardware and components.
- At least three years of hands-on experience supporting IT equipment or analogous technical roles.
- Minimum of one year in a supervisory or managerial capacity leading teams.
- Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Four or more years working with IT hardware support or similar technology environments.
- Three-plus years in a 24x7x365 mission-critical data center setting.
- Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), or Six Sigma Green Belt.
- Two or more years managing a diverse technical workforce of up to ten individuals.
Security and Compliance
This position requires passing Microsoft’s Cloud background check initially and every two years subsequently. Verification of Australian citizenship through valid passport is mandatory to meet government security requirements. Additionally, enhanced government vetting through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (NV1, PV Clearance Assessment) may be required.
