Role overview
AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and day-to-day operation of AWS’s global infrastructure. The team keeps cloud services running by supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power systems, and cooling equipment so customers can continue to access the services they depend on. The work spans complex supply-chain and operations challenges, and the organization is looking for people who are eager to contribute in a high-scale environment.
You will be part of a broad group that includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security professionals, operations managers, and other important functions. The environment emphasizes strong safety and security standards, large-scale capacity delivery, and an inclusive culture where ideas are encouraged and ownership is expected through to completion.
AWS is expanding quickly, and this opening is for a Data Center Technician within the Infrastructure Operations team. The Data Center Operations function is responsible for building, installing, and maintaining very large computing infrastructure, including systems support, repairs, issue handling, parts tracking, and assistance with data center maintenance in high-density facilities.
What you will do
- Take responsibility for on-site hardware lifecycle support within the IT infrastructure.
- Work as part of the operations team to maintain and keep the data center infrastructure in good working order.
- Carry out server rack installation, hardware break-fix work on multiple components, network troubleshooting, and response to urgent issues that may affect stability.
- Handle assigned trouble tickets within SLA targets through a directed workflow and serve as the first point of contact for hardware and technical troubleshooting.
- Support on-call coverage and participate in data center operations, including scheduled maintenance and change-management work that requires infrastructure monitoring.
- Join team meetings to review metrics and align on daily and weekly goals.
- Follow department policies and procedures, including safety and security requirements, and apply them appropriately in daily work.
- Document technical issues through root-cause analysis and contribute to process-improvement efforts for the data center environment.
- Help train less experienced team members when needed.
- Work across a 24x7 rotating shift schedule.
- Support data center infrastructure equipment such as racks, servers, networking devices, hardware parts, and cables.
- Carry out routine ticket-driven tasks and systematic problem resolution, including rack installation, server break/fix work, and rack decommissioning.
- Maintain order and tidiness across operating areas while supporting site management needs.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware.
- At least 1 year of computer networking experience.
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Comfortable working effectively with customers while resolving issues and staying productive under pressure.
- Ability to work within ticket-based processes and follow instructions carefully.
- Willingness to take part in on-call work and 24x7 shift rotation.
- Awareness of safety and security practices in a data center environment.
