Role Overview
Lovehoney Group is hiring a Customs Expert to strengthen customs compliance and support the efficient movement of goods across international markets. Working closely with the Director of Global Transportation, this position combines customs knowledge, international trade expertise, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-moving global setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep current with worldwide customs rules, trade regulations, and compliance obligations to help the business meet international trade standards.
- Advise internal stakeholders such as procurement, transportation, and sales teams on customs matters to support smooth cross-border operations.
- Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure customs paperwork is accurate and clearance runs on time.
- Assign products to the correct Harmonized System codes and stay familiar with tariffs, duties, and taxes.
- Guide the preparation of customs declarations, certificates of origin, and other export/import documents.
- Prepare customs declarations for selected countries.
- Partner with transportation managers to maintain customs compliance across seafreight, airfreight, parcel, and road freight movements.
- Carry out audits and compliance checks to spot risks and put corrective actions in place.
- Maintain organised records of customs documentation for reference, archiving, and future audits.
- Help resolve customs issues such as delays, inspections, and disputes together with the relevant teams.
- Track updates in customs rules and trade agreements that may affect import and export activities, and recommend changes where needed.
What You Need
- At least 5 years of experience in customs regulations, import/export compliance, and international trade operations, preferably in retail, logistics, or supply chain environments.
- A degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Customs Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional customs/trade compliance certification.
- Strong understanding of global customs legislation, tariff classification, dangerous goods requirements, and international trade agreements.
- Strong analytical ability and a sharp eye for detail to manage precise customs documentation and compliance workflows.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to explain technical customs topics to non-specialists.
- Hands-on experience with customs software and compliance tools.
- The ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks effectively, and adapt in a busy international business environment.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a strong commitment to compliance, ethics, and continuous improvement.
