Job description

Role overview

This position sits within a sizeable customs operation at the Dublin facility and is responsible for driving customs compliance across the Ireland and UK sites. The successful hire will lead a knowledgeable compliance team, support day-to-day operational customs matters, and act as the primary source of expertise for internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the organisation’s internal authority on customs topics and compliance matters.
  • Take ownership of AEO accreditation, related queries, and wider compliance obligations.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with relevant customs authorities and departments.
  • Spot compliance gaps, investigate questions, and share findings with the customs team.
  • Track regulatory and procedural changes, document updates, and communicate them to the wider team.
  • Deliver training on newly introduced requirements when needed.
  • Partner with customs leadership to keep processes aligned with customs legislation.
  • Create and improve processes in response to system updates, customs changes, and best practice.
  • Ensure Common Transit consignments are compliant for both domestic and international movements.
  • Maintain the documentation needed to operate on behalf of customers, including Direct Representation and deferment facilities.
  • Handle discussions with customs authorities regarding clearances, audits, and related queries.
  • Monitor changes to the customs code and ensure controls are updated accordingly.
  • Flag potential risks and delays early, then help stakeholders put mitigation plans in place.
  • Work with customs and operational teams in Ireland and the UK to standardise working methods and share improvements.
  • Oversee internal audits and ensure weekly reporting is completed.
  • Make sure any required retraining is carried out and formally signed off by customs staff.
  • Coordinate with the customs office manager to deliver training programmes as required.
  • Confirm that customs clearance processes are followed correctly.
  • Support warehouse and administrative teams in maintaining customs compliance.
  • Help manage the day-to-day release of goods while they remain under customs control.
  • Use audit findings to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend process enhancements.

Experience and skills

  • Strong working knowledge of customs clearance rules and operational procedures.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing customer service in a busy, high-pressure environment.
  • Good understanding of supply chains and the freight forwarding industry.
  • Self-motivated, target-focused, and proactive in approach.
  • Well-developed organisational and communication abilities.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively to solve problems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and deadline handling.
  • Sound understanding of customs systems, regulatory obligations, and query resolution.
