Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Customs Administrator for a 12-month contract at a major manufacturing facility located in Stafford. This role involves ensuring the efficient and compliant processing of imports, managing customs documentation, and facilitating international goods movement without disruptions.

Key Duties

  • Deliver prompt and precise customs clearance instructions to brokers aligned with UK customs regulations and deadlines.
  • Review and verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency of import documentation across various sources.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to clarify queries, gather additional paperwork, and resolve inconsistencies.
  • Calculate relevant customs duties and seek opportunities to reduce duty costs when feasible.
  • Maintain thorough records and logs related to import documentation supporting audits requested by HMRC and internal teams.
  • Foster effective working relationships with stakeholders and uphold regulatory compliance standards.
  • Identify and flag any cases of non-compliance and escalate issues to the Customs Compliance Supervisor as necessary.
  • Manage classification requests efficiently.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by proposing enhancements to customs processes.

Candidate Profile

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, including working knowledge of formulas, pivot tables, layouts, and charts.
  • Experience working in a sizable or complex organizational environment.
  • Background in companies engaged in global buying or selling of products.
  • Knowledge of Incoterms and their application.
  • Previous roles in import/export, customs operations, or logistics.
  • Experience handling Customs Declaration Service (CDS) processes.

Additional Information

This position requires candidates to have the legal entitlement to live and work in the United Kingdom without visa sponsorship for a minimum of six months. The hourly wage is £14.80. This is a contract role based onsite in Stafford.
