Role overview
Join Piedmont Airlines in Piedmont, SD as a part-time Customer Service Gate Agent within the Ground Handling Department. This role focuses on supporting passengers at the gate and helping maintain smooth, dependable service for travelers and airline partners. The position reports to the General Manager.
What you will do
- Help passengers board and exit aircraft safely and efficiently.
- Track boarding activity through the computerized passenger boarding system.
- Support travelers who need extra assistance, including wheelchair arrangements and help for unaccompanied minors.
- Update flight itineraries and seat assignments when needed.
- Operate the jetway as part of gate operations.
- Work collaboratively with the team to deliver strong customer service and support company goals.
Qualifications and capabilities
- You should be able to complete the gate agent training program successfully.
- You need the ability to stay effective in a fast-paced, high-energy setting while meeting company and customer expectations.
- Strong communication skills are important for this role.
- You should be able to organize tasks, set priorities, and manage several responsibilities at once.
Preferred background
- Prior experience in the airline industry is preferred.
- Previous work in a customer-facing frontline service role is preferred.
- A basic working knowledge of common computer applications and programs is an advantage.
Work setting
This position uses telephones, computers, and other office equipment. The work is performed in an airport ramp environment and may involve changing weather conditions and high noise levels. Schedules may include weekends, nights, holidays, and irregular shifts, and the role requires working all shifts.
Physical demands
The job involves frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, walking, standing, reaching, lifting, and climbing stairs. You must be able to handle items weighing up to 70 pounds and assist passengers with disabilities, including pushing wheelchairs.
Employment conditions
Employment is conditional on having a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, a 10-year criminal history records check, and a drug screen where required. Applicants must also provide proof of high school or GED completion and be at least 18 years old. The company notes that job duties and expectations may change as business needs evolve.
Pay and benefits
The starting wage is $15.25 per hour. The benefits package includes paid training, holiday pay, a 401(k) plan, vacation time, family travel privileges on the American Airlines network, and access to medical and dental coverage.
