Job description
About the role
One Stop Stores Ltd is hiring a Customer Service Assistant for its Scunthorpe store. This is a busy, customer-facing retail position where each shift can be different. The role combines service, stock handling, payment processing, and keeping the shop floor looking presentable and safe.
As a subsidiary of Tesco, One Stop operates in a fast-moving convenience retail setting and places customers at the centre of every decision. You will be expected to help improve the experience in store through coaching, feedback, and a strong focus on service standards.
What you will do
- Serve shoppers with a friendly, positive, and professional approach.
- Encourage customers to share feedback through the store’s survey process.
- Work across multiple store areas, including tills, replenishment, online orders, vending, and stock routines.
- Use training provided to carry out tasks safely and correctly.
- Take part in seasonal, community, and charity activities that help create an inclusive store atmosphere.
- Understand the store’s performance and contribute to delivering profit.
- Represent the company’s values, follow policies, and help every customer and colleague feel welcome.
- Clock in and out at the beginning and end of shifts so pay is accurate.
- Protect colleagues and customers by following security procedures and using safety equipment where available.
- Follow age-restricted sales rules, including the Think 25 policy.
- Respond promptly to self-checkout assistance and explain actions clearly to customers.
- Keep the shop floor clean, tidy, and free from congestion.
- At some times, you may be required to lead the shift when the Shift Leader or Store Manager is not present.
- Follow all training and legal requirements to keep yourself, others, and the store safe and compliant.
- If the location includes a Post Office Local, the role also covers daily post office duties and requires a financial and criminal conviction background check, which must be passed before the offer can continue.
Working style and support
Flexible working conversations are welcomed. One Stop recognises that people have different needs and stages of life, including career starters, carers, parents, retirees, and anyone navigating a major life change.
Benefits and community impact
Colleagues can access the wider One Stop benefits package, with the full list available on the careers page. As part of the Tesco Group, One Stop shares similar values while operating with its own independent benefits structure.
The business is deeply involved in local communities, supporting charities, groups, and national causes. Over the last ten years, it has raised more than £10.4 million for good causes and helped provide the equivalent of 1.6 million meals through partnerships with FareShare and Olio.
Diversity and inclusion
One Stop promotes an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds are welcomed and treated fairly. The company is a Disability Confident Leader at Level 3 and can provide reasonable adjustments during recruitment, including interviews. It also supports colleagues through networks for Armed Forces, Disability, LGBTQ+, Families & Carers, Race & Ethnicity, and Women.
Additional information
One Stop may close the vacancy early if it receives a successful application before the stated closing date. Applicants are encouraged to submit their details as soon as possible.
