Job description

About the role

One Stop, part of the Tesco Group, is hiring a Customer Service Assistant for its Blackpool store. This position sits in a busy retail setting where each shift can bring something different. The role supports the store’s daily running by delivering friendly service, replenishing stock, handling transactions, and helping keep the shop floor presentable and well organised.

Customer care is central to the role, so you’ll be expected to look for ways to improve the experience in store through coaching, feedback, and consistent service standards. You will also help maintain a safe working and shopping environment for colleagues and customers.

Key duties

  • Serve customers with warmth, energy, and a strong focus on helpful, natural service.
  • Encourage shoppers to share feedback through the store’s customer survey process.
  • Support all parts of the store, including online orders, checkouts, replenishment, vending, and stock routines.
  • Apply the training provided to work safely and follow required procedures.
  • Take part in seasonal activities, community initiatives, and charity events to help build an inclusive atmosphere.
  • Understand store performance and the contribution your role makes to profitability.
  • Work in line with the company’s values, treat everyone with respect, and follow store policies.
  • Record shift start and end times accurately by clocking in and out.
  • Protect yourself, colleagues, and customers by following security processes and using safety equipment where provided.
  • Follow age-restricted sales rules, including the Think 25 policy.
  • Respond promptly to assistance requests and self-checkout interventions, while clearly explaining actions to customers.
  • Keep the shop floor clean, tidy, and free from congestion.
  • When needed, step up to help run the shift if the Shift Leader and Store Manager are unavailable.
  • If the branch includes a Post Office Local, carry out day-to-day post office duties and complete the required financial and criminal conviction background checks; failure to pass these checks will result in the offer being withdrawn.

What the employer offers

One Stop aims to make everyday life easier for local customers by combining value, variety, and friendly service. As part of a large group but with the feel of a neighbourhood store, the business offers a welcoming environment for both customers and colleagues.

The company is open to conversations about flexible working to support different life situations, including early-career applicants, carers, people approaching retirement, new parents, and others who may need different working arrangements.

Benefits and community impact

Colleague benefits are available, with the full list referenced on the company careers page. As an independent business within the Tesco Group, the benefits may differ from those offered by Tesco itself.

The organisation also places strong emphasis on community involvement, including support for local charities and groups, as well as national causes. Over the past decade, it has raised more than £10.4 million for good causes and helped provide the equivalent of 1.6 million meals through partnerships with FareShare and Olio to reduce food waste and support people in need.

Colleagues are encouraged to get involved in fundraising and local initiatives, from marathons and mountain climbs to community raffles and similar events.

Diversity and accessibility

One Stop describes itself as an inclusive employer where people from all backgrounds are welcomed and treated fairly. The company is committed to accessibility and, as a Disability Confident Leader (Level 3), offers reasonable adjustments during recruitment, including interviews, so candidates have a fair chance to succeed.

The business also supports colleague networks covering Armed Forces, Disability, LGBTQ+, Families & Carers, Race & Ethnicity, and Women, helping create a safe and supportive place to work.

Additional information

The employer may close the vacancy early if a suitable candidate is found before the stated closing date, so applicants are encouraged to apply promptly.
