About the role
As a Customer Delivery Driver, you will be the public face of Tesco while delivering shopping directly to customers’ homes. The job is not limited to driving alone — it also involves providing friendly, helpful service and making sure every delivery leaves a positive impression. The work is active, practical, and varied, with each shift bringing different situations. You will work on your own for much of the day, while still having access to support from managers and colleagues based at the store.
Working hours
The availability window for this role is:
- Sunday: 08:00 to 16:00
- Monday: 08:00 to 15:00
- Tuesday: 13:00 to 23:00
- Wednesday: 18:00 to 23:00
- Thursday: 08:00 to 18:00
- Friday: 19:00 to 23:00
- Saturday: 18:00 to 22:00
Pay and hours
Pay begins at £14.18 per hour, and rises to £15.45 per hour in stores located within the M25. Some branches may also offer extra payments. The role guarantees at least 16 hours per week, although 12-hour roles are also available.
Responsibilities
- Keep the van, trays, and work area clean, orderly, and well organised so customers receive shopping in excellent condition.
- Load the vehicle safely and carry out all required checks so it is legal, dependable, and ready for deliveries.
- Explain any order changes, substitutions, or short-dated products to customers in a polite and reassuring manner, and process refunds where necessary.
- Handle all items carefully and make sure every order is treated with attention and respect to protect quality and customer confidence.
- Deliver within the customer’s chosen time slot and provide a warm, natural experience at the doorstep.
- Leave each customer feeling appreciated and well served.
Requirements
- Ability to work closely with colleagues and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
- A friendly, welcoming manner with both customers and co-workers.
- Willingness to adapt quickly to changing customer needs and to embrace change while working in the store and on the road.
- A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence (full or automatic) held for at least 12 months.
- No more than 3 penalty points on the driving licence.
