Job description

About the role

Join a customer-facing driving and store support role where you will deliver Waitrose quality products directly to customers and represent the brand with a strong service mindset. When you are not completing deliveries, you will help the shop team with everyday duties such as replenishing stock and keeping the store tidy and well organised.

This role requires you to be at least 18 years old.

Key responsibilities

  • Review your delivery schedule at the start of the day and plan the routes you will follow.
  • Prepare and load the van so all orders are organised for efficient delivery to customers.
  • Carry out the required vehicle safety checks and make sure the van remains compliant with road safety and health and safety expectations.
  • Act as a positive representative of the Waitrose brand while driving and delivering.
  • Support customers with their shopping and build trustworthy, friendly relationships through good service.
  • Assist the wider store team with general shop tasks whenever needed.

Skills and experience needed

You should bring strong customer service ability, good time management, and the confidence to work alone while staying motivated and flexible. The job also involves physical work such as lifting crates and moving cages, so you need to be comfortable with that. Basic IT confidence is also required.

A full, valid UK manual Category B driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points is essential. Previous driving experience and familiarity with chilled vehicles would be an advantage.

About the Partnership

The business is the UK’s largest employee-owned company and includes the John Lewis and Waitrose brands. Partners share responsibility for the success of the organisation, contribute their ideas, and work together through both challenges and achievements. The culture values kindness, respect, inclusion, and the freedom for people to be themselves while developing individually and as a team.

Additional information

Some roles may require pre-employment vetting, which can include DBS checks and, for certain positions, financial probity checks. If this applies, details will be shared during recruitment. Any required checks are completed by an external registered provider.

Vacancies may be closed earlier than expected if a high number of applications is received, so early application is encouraged. If a disability means you need extra time to complete the application, you should contact the employer as soon as possible.

Flexible working is supported where possible and may include compressed hours, job sharing, or shorter-hour contracts. This can be discussed further with the hiring manager during the interview.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
