Job description

About the role

Tesco is looking for Customer Delivery Drivers to join the team and act as the customer’s first point of contact. The role is active, hands-on, and varied, with each day bringing different delivery needs. While you will work independently on the road for much of your shift, managers and colleagues will be available from the base to help when needed.

Shift patterns vary. Contracts are available on both part-time and full-time basis, with working hours ranging from 20 to 39 hours per week.

Key duties

  • Deliver a strong home-shopping experience by keeping the customer central to every interaction.
  • Load the van when required and make sure it is roadworthy before setting off.
  • Follow the planned schedule and delivery route assigned for the day.
  • Present yourself in uniform and be ready to support customers professionally.
  • Drive safely, responsibly, and in line with road regulations.
  • Show courtesy to other road users at all times.
  • Greet customers warmly and address them by name where appropriate.
  • Handle deliveries carefully and treat each order as if it were your own.

What you need

  • A full Irish or EU driving licence, manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
  • No more than 3 penalty points on your licence.
  • A safe and considerate approach to driving.
  • A genuine interest in helping others.
  • A friendly personality, a good sense of humour, and strong communication skills.
  • The confidence to use initiative and common sense.
  • A customer-first mindset and concern for making a positive difference for both customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to remain composed when under pressure.

Recruitment and compliance notes

All job offers are subject to Garda Vetting. During assessment, candidates must provide proof of current penalty points on their driving licence, which can be requested from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, selecting Option 4, and quoting the driver number.

Candidates who have been disqualified from driving within the last 10 years are not eligible to apply.

If successful, the offer will also depend on the candidate providing bank account details before the agreed start date.

Pay and benefits

The starting pay for new drivers is €18.24 per hour, with an additional premium for Sunday work.

  • Varied shift options
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Clubcard discount for colleagues, including 10% off in stores and online, 15% off on selected weekends once a month, 20% off twice a year, and 20% off F&F clothing throughout the year; discounts can also be extended to a family member with a second Clubcard, subject to scheme rules
  • Virtual GP service with free and confidential online GP consultations and prescription support for colleagues, plus reduced-cost access for family members living at the same address
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for the colleague and family members, with immediate emotional support and wider wellbeing services under the Body, Mind and Life approach
